Cholera
Untreated water from lakes, ponds and rivers, a contaminated found bottle, or sharing a drink with someone who has it.
Shows up
~20–30 min
After drinking contaminated water.
Heals by itself
Practically never
Only with an immune system above ~95 %.
Cure
Tetracycline
1 pill early on, ~4 at its peak.
Kills by
Thirst & hunger
Every vomit costs 450 water and 310 food.
Cholera germs come from untreated natural water. The game counts them in your body as agents, up to 1000: they multiply slowly (0.15 per second) unless your immune system is above ~95 % or multivitamins are working. You get sick from 250 agents, ~20–30 min after drinking — and the longer you wait, the more pills it takes.
Stages
How the disease runs in the game, stage by stage: when it starts, what it does, and whether it still heals.
Incubation
only with medicine1–249 agents
Nothing you can notice yet; the agents grow by 0.15 per second.
Your body kills them (0.45 per second) only with an immune system above ~95 % or with multivitamins. Tetracycline already works now.
~28 min after a tiny dose, ~22 min after 50 agents.
Cholera
only with medicinefrom 250 agents (of 1000); ends at 50
Symptoms
- Vomiting
- Getting thirsty unusually fast
- Feeling hot
- Blurry vision
- Thermometer shows 38.5 °C or more
- Sick icon in the status bar
You vomit once when it starts, then often whenever there is food or water in your stomach. Every vomit costs 450 water and 310 food, empties 65 % of your stomach and leaves your stamina weak for 30 s. On top: thirst, fever (an extra 0.2 water per second, blurred vision, 38.5–39 °C on a thermometer) and the sick icon.
Not by itself: your body kills cholera only with an immune system above ~95 % or with multivitamins. Otherwise it keeps growing until it peaks, ~83 min after it started.
Deadly: Indirectly, through thirst and hunger — no fixed time.
How to get rid of it
Take tetracycline and keep taking a pill whenever the last one has worn off, until the vomiting stops (up to three or four pills). Multivitamins help. Drink clean water.
How to avoid it
Drink from wells and pumps; boil or chlorinate all other water, found bottles included.
Good to know
- Filling a bottle at a pond, lake or river gives it cholera one time in ten.
- Boiling, chlorine tablets or chelating tablets make water safe from cholera.
Not sure it is this?
The doctor asks what you notice on your character and names the disease and its stage.
