// dayz disease

Salmonella

Raw or rotten meat, bear or wolf meat, or eating and drinking with bloody hands.

Shows up

~1 min

Within ~80 s of eating.

Cure

Multivitamins

One bottle clears even a full infection in ~5 min.

Charcoal

Last 100 s only

Works only in the last 100 s of its 5 minutes.

Tetracycline

No effect

Salmonella germs come with raw meat, bear and wolf meat and bloody hands. The game counts them in your body as agents, up to 300; they multiply fast (0.75 per second) unless your immune system is above ~95 % or multivitamins are working. From 60 agents you are sick, at 20 you are well again.

Stages

How the disease runs in the game, stage by stage: when it starts, what it does, and whether it still heals.

  1. Salmonella

    only with medicine

from 60 agents (of 300); ends at 20

    Symptoms

    • Vomiting
    • Pain groans
    • Sick icon in the status bar

You groan with cramps every 12–18 s. Whenever there is food or water in your stomach you vomit often; each vomit throws out 30 % of the agents but costs 450 water, 310 food and half your stomach. No fever. Sick icon.

Not by itself: your body kills salmonella only with an immune system above ~95 % or with multivitamins. Otherwise it reaches its peak ~5 min after it started.

How to get rid of it

Take multivitamins: one bottle clears it within about five minutes. Charcoal tablets only work in the last 100 seconds of their five minutes and rarely clear it alone; take the next only once the first has run out. Tetracycline does not help.

How to avoid it

Cook all meat, be careful with bear and wolf, and clean your hands or wear gloves after gutting animals.

Good to know

  • Charcoal and multivitamins together are the fastest: the vitamins work from the start, the charcoal adds to them in its last 100 s.
  • Cooking removes salmonella — except from bear and wolf steaks: cooked they keep it 60 % of the time, burnt always.
