Influenza
A cold that keeps growing because you stay cold with a weak immune system.
Heals by itself
Flu only
When you are warm the fever is gone in ~11 min.
Deadly
~24 min
Pneumonia, from full health with full blood.
Cure
Tetracycline
Pneumonia back to the flu in ~100 s when you are warm.
The flu is a cold that has grown further: the same flu germs in your body, which the game counts as agents, up to 1200. They multiply while you are cold and your immune system is at or below ~72 %, and die off once you are warm. From 1150 agents it turns into pneumonia, which never heals by itself — not even in the warm.
Stages
How the disease runs in the game, stage by stage: when it starts, what it does, and whether it still heals.
Flu
heals by itselffrom 600 agents (of 1200); ends at 400
Symptoms
- Coughing
- Sneezing
- Feeling hot
- Blurry vision
- Thermometer shows 38.5 °C or more
- Getting thirsty unusually fast
- Sick icon in the status bar
Fever: you lose an extra 0.2 water per second, your vision blurs, you act hot every 12–18 s and a thermometer shows 38.5–39 °C. The cold stays underneath, so you keep sneezing.
When you are warm, or your immune system is above ~72 %: 0.3 agents per second. The fever ends after ~11 min; all agents are gone after ~33 min (strong immune system) to ~38 min (weak).
Freezing with a weak immune system: pneumonia in ~23 min (light blue), ~15 min (dark blue), ~13 min (flashing).
Pneumonia
only with medicinefrom 1150 agents; ends at 1100
Symptoms
- Gasping for air
- Coughing
- Sneezing
- Feeling hot
- Blurry vision
- Thermometer shows 38.5 °C or more
- Stamina runs out fast
- Losing health without being hurt
- Sick icon in the status bar
You lose 0.1 health per second, and your stamina drains 1.3× as fast and refills at half speed. The fever of the flu goes on.
Never by itself, not even when you are warm: in the warm the agents stay where they are, in the cold they keep growing. Only tetracycline brings you back to the flu.
Deadly: ~24 min from full health with full blood, ~17 min with little blood — your normal health regeneration slows it a little.
How to get rid of it
Get warm, then take tetracycline; for pneumonia take a second pill when the first one has worn off. Multivitamins help against the flu but not against pneumonia.
How to avoid it
Do not stay in the blue: dry clothes, a fire and a warm meal stop a cold from getting this far.
Good to know
- Multivitamins do nothing against pneumonia.
- Painkillers and morphine halve the sneezing; they cure nothing.
- When the flu ends, no new agents get in for 5 minutes (10 after pneumonia). With a weak immune system the count also stands still during that time — it neither grows nor fades.
- A mask lowers the chance of picking up agents from a coughing or sneezing player.
Not sure it is this?
The doctor asks what you notice on your character and names the disease and its stage.
